Alexander Mosquera (AM), a Washington, D.C.-based artist, draws profound inspiration from the vibrant landscapes of his native Colombia. Immersed in the ecosystems of Colombia’s rainforests, where the rich interplay of color and life—from the striking plumage of toucans to the kinetic energy of primates—left an indelible mark on Mosquera's creative imagination. These early experiences continue to inform his work, translating the untamed beauty of nature into compositions that blend intricate textures with dynamic movement.
Mosquera’s distinct artistic style, deeply influenced by magic realism, has attracted the attention of prestigious organizations. He has been commissioned by National Geographic, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), VIDA Fitness, and others, to bring his vibrant, nature-inspired creations to wider audiences. Through his art, Mosquera celebrates joy, expressing an exuberant connection to the natural world that invites viewers into a sensory dialogue. His work honors both the delicate and the bold, urging reflection on the beauty and mystery of life while embodying the emotional power and uplifting spirit of nature.
Fully comfortable in expressing my art in a full range of conventional materials, I also enjoy experimenting with new materials on canvas to create new visual impact. I believe that working within the boundaries of a single medium stifles my creativity. Each new idea deserves its own artistic expression, and I revel in the opportunity to bring them to life through a variety of mediums.
As an artist, I find endless inspiration in the beauty of nature and the experiences gained from traveling the world. My artwork is a reflection of the moments of joy and wonder that I have encountered along my journey. The vibrant rainforests and breathtaking landscapes that I have been fortunate enough to witness have left a lasting impression on my art.
The simplicity and emotion conveyed in Mark Rothko's work, the freedom of expression in Jackson Pollock's paintings, and the brightness and vitality of Vincent Van Gogh's art have all deeply influenced my own artistic journey. These masters have inspired me to strive for authenticity and honesty in my own art, and to find joy in the creative process
